The Granary
A new life for Draper Farm
Large Master Planned communities can often feel templated and uninspired — a rinse-and-repeat approach involving the clearing away of what had been there and replacing it with as many housing units as feasible. Capstone that with a standard, familiar community amenity zone, and you’re left with yet another replicant of the ‘Anywhere America’ trend.
Some Master Planned communities break this mold with careful consideration, vision, and the capacity to develop something conceptual. The Granary, a project conceived and developed by Convergence Communities, is one such endeavor.
The Granary will be embedded in the footprint of what was once the family farm of Convergence Communities CEO, Colby Cox. Situated just outside of Milton, Delaware, the development comprises nearly 315 acres, with 25 percent of the total land dedicated to natural spaces. This intention became a through line of the brand story — one that weaves together the importance of nature, wellness, and connectivity with others as essential to a full life.
The history of Milton and the history of Draper Farm (the site of The Granary) suggested a gentle nod to times before industrialization, when good things took time and were often made by hand. Both the logo and monogram were inspired by the emphasis on artisanship and craftsmanship guiding the development.
I was commissioned on this project by Wick Marketing, an impressive agency based in Austin, TX who specializes in real estate and development brands. Thank you Amy, Alison, Kelsey and team.
